A New Blog For An Old Hobby

Posted on August 18, 2021August 22, 2021

If you’ve been here before (you haven’t, I’ve seen the site stats!) you might’ve seen a blog about my life that I rarely kept up with. I’ve turned into more of a paper journal over the last several years so that’s where most of my entries have been going. I’ve actually uninstalled the stats gathering plugin for this site. I’m not overly concerned with them at this point and I feel like it would put unnecessary pressure on me. That may change down the road but for now, feels like the right decision.

Recently I rediscovered an old hobby and it has quickly turned into a passion! Photography! I was at a local park back in the early summer and started watching dragonflies looping around and landing in pretty much the same place every time. I’ve always liked watching these little monsters so I decided to break out my DSLR that had been collecting dust for far too long and upgraded the kit lens to a dedicated macro lens. I’ll create a hardware/gear page soon and link it **HERE**. I’ve been hooked on photography ever since. Not only have I been practicing macro every chance I get but I’ve also dabbled a bit into street photography. Ever since I read about Vivian Maier I’ve been fascinated by street photography. Years ago I tried my hand at it but at that time I was dealing with terrible depression and no matter how much I wanted to go out I just couldn’t find the energy to do it. I recently found some of my old photos from ~2012/13 so I may post some of those down the line.

Fast forward to this year and I’ve been taking pictures every day with my DSLR, my phone, or my mirrorless camera. I’ve found that I can actually calm my thoughts by just going out into my front yard, slowly walk around and practice macro photography. I feel re-energized after that and also by going out and just walking in the downtown portion of where I live and doing a bit of street/random photography. I’ve even set up my iPhone with a case from Moment so I can use the lenses I bought years ago.

I don’t know if I’ll have a regular posting schedule here or not but I do have some posts in my head I want to get post asap. So, if you’re just finding my site or you’re a friend who might still be subscribed, bookmark it and check back regularly!

Talk Soon.
